Who are we?
The term “diaconia” is derived from ancient Greek and means service. In its essence it captures what is important to us, namely: serving. Serving people who have been dealt a bad hand in life: people who are commonly characterised as materially poor and who have little chance of finding their feet on their own. Alongside testimony (martyria), church services (liturgia) and fellowship (koinonia) diaconia represents the fourth basic function of the church- through which our heart’s desire becomes obvious; as followers of Jesus we live out Jesus’ teaching by showing his love through serving the poorest of the poor.
